Choose when ADT researches
Opening Only preserves the existing preliminary and final opening-research workflow. Custom Schedule accepts explicit research times in America/New_York. Interval runs between offsets from the actual exchange open and close. Manual Only runs when you select Research Now.
Research Now remains available with automatic schedules. It uses the same provider, account checks and execution pipeline. Existing live-account authorization applies; no per-pick approval is added. Positions continue through their configured automatic protection and exit lifecycles.
The NYSE calendar determines trading days, daylight-saving transitions and early closes. Regular-session research is bounded by the configured flatten deadline. There is no additional 9:35 delay. Existing users remain Opening Only until they choose a different mode.
Research does not require a trade
Every run may return zero, one or several qualifying candidates. Maximum research runs and maximum entries are separate limits. Zero capital, unavailable current data, exhausted position slots or a lack of qualifying evidence can result in no entry. Quality thresholds are not lowered to satisfy a schedule.
Later research considers the current exchange time, time remaining, intraday conditions, existing positions, pending entries, completed trades, previous symbols and available capacity. An opening gap can remain useful context without being represented as a current quote. Same-day re-entry into previously selected symbols is excluded.
Available to Deploy
Account equity is not the amount ADT may put into a new position. Available to Deploy is bounded by current broker availability, pending entry reservations, current exposure and the remaining ADT session allocation. The existing whole-share sizing rules also enforce the maximum position size, entry count and concurrency limits.
The session allocation is a cumulative purchase limit. Closing a position does not restore that allowance. Changing the allocation in settings updates the current capacity calculation. Other saved strategy parameters retain their next-session behavior.
Before an entry, ADT refreshes and reconciles broker account, positions and orders. An old research snapshot cannot authorize an order. Durable order intents reserve capital before submission, so simultaneous candidates cannot each spend the same allocation.
Cash and Margin settings
Select Cash or Margin under Trading when IBKR does not supply a clear classification. That selection never creates buying power. Broker balances and restrictions remain authoritative; a conflicting reported classification blocks new entries.
For cash accounts, settled cash is one of the required broker constraints. ADT does not assume that closing a trade makes the sale proceeds immediately reusable. For margin accounts, the calculation uses buying power and margin-relevant availability rather than imposing settled-cash behavior.
Unsettled proceeds and settlement dates display as Unavailable when the implemented broker fields cannot reliably determine them. ADT does not infer a settlement schedule from an assumed accounting rule. Broker rejections remain authoritative for restrictions that cannot be identified in advance.
Missed events, restarts and history
Older scheduled times become missed events without being replayed in a burst. A short grace period accommodates tick jitter or reconnect checks; healthy on-time events start immediately. Research collisions are recorded as skipped, and a manual click during research reports that a run is already in progress.
A restart restores session records, position lifecycles and order reservations. Interrupted research is abandoned and late results cannot create entries. Future schedule events continue after broker reconciliation. Schedule edits apply to future times.
The dashboard shows the next research time and countdown, run count, current capacity and inspectable event history with real system reasons. A no-opportunity event is a normal outcome.
These behaviors are covered by deterministic software simulations, including cash and margin full-session fixtures and restart tests. They are not evidence of profitability or a broker live performance track record. See order reconciliation and research versus execution for the related boundaries.
